Howdy Y'all! My name is April Habit - Chief Dirt Pusher/Born & Raised in Virginia Beach, VA.

Being in business for me means being of service. Being a part of something bigger. Being the change I want to see. Being part of the solution by bringing joy, comfort, kindness and hope to you. These are just SOME of the reasons why the success of Southern Fried Farm is so important to me. My mission incorporates self-reliance, dirt, seeds, watching the miracles of Mother Earth, lots of sunshine and plenty of hard work. My family owns seven beautiful acres of land that is smack dab in the middle of cornfields and horse farms. I intend to turn this land into an oasis for families to come and enjoy chickens clucking and bee's buzzing...a life created by nature and nurtured by me. I am going to create a beautiful and joyful space where you could come buy fresh veggies, pick fresh fruit, berries and herbs. You will be able to purchase honey from our bee hives and eggs from our chickens. I already have some great classes lined up as well. Beekeeping, canning, gardening, candle & soap making just to name a few. There are so many exciting opportunities for me to share. Southern Fried Farm will be more than a place where you just buy veggies, it will be a place for our local community to gather together and experience the joys of being on a farm.

I used my Kiva loan to purchase lumber for new raised garden beds (plus the seeds & dirt), purchase of a mini-greenhouse, repairing of existing chicken coop, build-out of farm stand from existing shed on property, professional sign, website development & branded merchandise and baking supplies (ingredients, new pans & paper products).

If you are planning to fund a loan on Kiva, depending on your loan amount, you will be required to have a certain amount of loans funded by friends, family, co-workers, etc. This is your private funding period. I had to have 21 privately funded lenders before my campaign could move to public funding where millions of lenders can view it. My biggest piece of advice is to already be thinking of those individuals you can ask to support your loan while your campaign is in the approval process. This will make it easier and faster to move to public funding.

I loved working with Katie, my loan officer. She was always there to answer any of my questions and anything she didn't know off the top of her head, she would make sure someone else could assist me. She was very punctual with getting back to me which I really appreciated. I actually got to work with a person and not some automated customer service feature.

My Kiva loan has been a game changer for me and I am so honored to be a part of the Kiva family.
